Educational and Family concerts Insect Fables II
With original works by Katrina Wreede and Benjamin Tomkins
Aesop’s Fables selected and their morals are:

The Beetle and the Eagle: It doesn’t work to pretend to be something you are not.  It just leads to problems, and you won’t appreciate the wonderful things you already have.

The Ants and the Pigs: A good lesson about what happens when you want ever more things than you really need, and that showing off those things too much doesn’t help you in the end.

The Ant and the Chrysalis: Appearances are deceptive, and we do not always see someone’s hidden beauty.

The Two Crabs: Do not tell others how to act unless you can set a good example yourself.

The CCP string/wind/piano sextet returns for a fourth year to the Butterfly Pavilion for another popular program on music and insects! Insect Fables give a modern take on four of Aesop’s Fables about insects and other creatures of the natural world. Aesop himself was a Greek slave who lived in the mid-sixth century BC in ancient Greece. His fables have been passed down through the centuries, and are much beloved for their endearing and timeless wisdom.

This year’s program, Insect Fables II, consists of 4 BRAND NEW short commissioned pieces by composers Katrina Wreede and Benjamin Tomkins. The pieces by our composers will be given world premiere performances at the Butterfly Pavilion!  The concert is designed for children ages 4 to 10, accompanied by their teachers, parents or guardians. Concerts are presented at the Butterfly Pavilion in spring 2010 to correspond with the study of insects and life cycles of insects in Colorado schools. Live insects and demonstrations accompany the concerts, as well as optional tours of the Pavilion.  Scholarships for admission and transportation assistance are available for qualifying schools- your school could be one of them!
