II. Dvorak in America
Czech composer Antonin Dvorak spent three years in the United States from 1892-1893. The CCP's new program draws on string music Dvorak wrote in Spillville, Iowa as well as excerpts from Dvorak's letters, newspaper reports, events at the turn of the century, and an historical context.  Dvorak believed that the future of American Music hinged on folk music from America- black Spirituals and Native American melodies.  A fascinating performance of the beloved composer's American string quartet, op. 96 and other Dvorak works- in celebration of Dvorak's 170th birthday!
