La Belle Epoque, at Alliance Francaise
Sunday, March 30, 2008, 7:30 pmAlliance Francaise de Denver
Audiences had a chance to "visit" the glittering Paris salons, 1878-1914. In the late 1800s Paris once again became an intellectual and artistic center in the Western world. The CCP performed music heard in salons of La Belle Epoche: Debussy, Ravel, Chausson and Lili Boulanger. Legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt (Irene VanHam Friedlob) read poems by Mallarme and Verlaine. This concert occurred in conjunction with Alliance Francaise and the Denver Art Museum's "Inspiring Impressionism" exhibit in 2008, with works by impressionist painters.
PROGRAM:
Lili Boulanger: Nocturne and Cortege, for Violin and Piano (1914)
Ernest Chausson: Chansons Perpetuelle, for Soprano, String Quartet and Piano (1898)
Claude Debussy: String Quartet in g minor, op. 10 (1893)
Cesar Franck: Piano Quintet in f minor (1878)
The concert was repeated at Foothills Art Center in Golden on March 29th, 2008.
