David Taylor Dance Theatre and the Colorado Chamber Players bring back Medusa, as well as other Halloween-inspired favorites.
Medusa, a dramatic work choreographed by James Wallace, is being produced collaboratively by David Taylor Dance Theatre and the Colorado Chamber Players.
This tragic Greek myth tells the story of Medusa, a beautiful young girl, caught in the wrath of Athena, after being discovered having an affair with Poseidon. Athena transforms Medusa into the snake haired creature that turns anyone to stone who catches her gaze. It features the haunting and powerful music of Caplet, Shostakovich, and Schulhoff, performed live by the CCP String Quartet and Pianist Andrew Cooperstock of the Colorado Chamber Players.
The program will also feature "The Storm", a dracula pas deux, "Bats and Spirits" from David Taylor's "Rainforest", and a work by Amy Anderson to Camille Saint-Saens ?Danse Macabre?. A string quartet by Silvestre Revueltas invokes the Mexican "Dia de los Muertos" or Day of the Dead. Don't miss this frightfully exciting show full of spooky Halloween surprises.
DTDT's choreography sets these works in motion showcasing the most talented contemporary ballet company in the region.
Medusa was originally conceived of through a collaboration with David Taylor Dance Theatre in October 2007, and was performed at Hampden Hall, Lakewood Cultural Center, and an abridged version at Highlands Garden Cafe.
