Don't miss the WORLD PREMIERE of Colorado Composer David Waldman's new work, The Legend of Pecos Bill, commissioned by the CCP!

The Legend of Pecos Bill is a brand spanking-new work for string quartet, oboe, and narrator approximately 40 minutes long. With music written by David Waldman, the script is by Greg Eidell and Scott Perry. It will be premiered by the Colorado Chamber Players on November 12, 2011 at the Boulder Public Library, narrated by the composer. The work tells the story of Pecos Bill in words and music, hitting all the highlights of his incredible life.
As a theater piece, words and music share the spotlight equally. The music is almost continuous throughout the work underscoring the narration, with a few musical interludes and a song or two for Pecos Bill or his true love, Slue-foot Sue.
The music features melodies reminiscent of Copland and classic movie Westerns, all slightly skewed and infused with other influences from Mr. Waldman's eclectic musical tastes. The overall atmosphere of the work is quite light and humorous, with enough drama to keep children interested but not scared.
The script draws from the many tall tales that have developed around the folk hero Pecos Bill. The stories remain the same but are given a fresh, quirky spin by Messrs. Eidell and Perry. Subtle wordplay and broad humor abound, with plenty of action.
The Legend of Pecos Bill will be performed in other Colorado locations throughout the 2011-12 season. Click on these links to find out more:
