| Katharine Knight, cellist, was a founding member of the former Da Vinci Quartet – a premiere Colorado ensemble for over two decades. She grew up in a family of artists, actors and writers, but found her personal muse when she fell in love with the cello at age 10. A native of Baltimore, Ms. Knight earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the Peabody Institute, where she studied with a succession of protégés of the great Russian cellist Gregor Piatigorsky – principally Stephen Kates and Laurence Lesser. She followed Lesser to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she pursued graduate studies; she earned her graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Ms. Knight frequently performs solos, as well as cello duos with her husband, Richard Slavich. Among other ensembles, she has also performed with the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, Chesapeake Opera Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Colorado Chamber players, ers/Burchfield/Knight Trio. Her theater and film performance credits include productions of “Amadeus,” “Twelfth Night” and “Strings.” Ms. Knight’s broad teaching and coaching expertise extends to the Peabody Preparatory Department, the Merrywand the Ayood Music School, and all major Colorado universities and colleges. She has further received numerous grants, based on both her consistent excellence in performance and her proven dedication to diverse community outreach programs. And her recordings include varied programming performed as a member of the Da Vinci Quartet, with whom she also performed the world premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s “Sky Quartet.” Ms. Knight plays a 1997 instrument made by husband and wife team Joseph Grubaugh and Sigrun Seifert. |
