David Waldman

Violinist

David Waldman has been a member of the Colorado Symphony violin section since 1994, and recently was appointed permanent 4th chair violin. Originally from St. Louis, he studied with Franco Gulli at Indiana University and with Blair Milton at Northwestern University. He was concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago from 1992-94, and a member of the Grant Park Symphony for four summers. David serves as concertmaster with Up Close and Musical, a Colorado Symphony outreach ensemble. His new work for the Colorado Chamber Players, Insect Fables, was premiered on March 2nd,  2009 at the Butterfly Pavilion. David has had compositions premiered by Up Close and Musical, the CCP, and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. David's Horn Concertino was performed by Michael Thornton in Melbourne, Australia in November 2009, following a 2008 premiere at the International Horn Symposium.

David has been composing music since before he can remember, and his output includes dozens of pop and musical theater songs, many works specifically for children, as well as standard "classical" pieces.  His compositions have been performed by the Colorado Symphony, and are a staple of the repertoire for the Up Close and Musical outreach program.   The Eclectic Ensemble of Denver recently premiered his latest composition in 2010, a song cycle based on James Joyce poetry.  His musical fable for string quartet and oboe Pecos Bill will be premiered in 2011 by the CCP.

An avid chamber musician, David has performed with many chamber groups around the country, and has been a member of the Colorado Chamber Players since 2002.  Bringing music of all genres to young children is a passion of his, and he performs at dozens of schools a year with outreach ensembles from the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado Chamber Players, as well as coaching and mentoring students in the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. David and his wife Gwen enjoy hiking in the mountains with their children, Emily and Scott.
