Emily Levin
Guest Harpist
Praised by the Jerusalem Post for her "communicative, emotionally intense expression", harpist Emily Levin strives to stretch the possibilities of her instrument beyond typical expectations. Her love for the harp is equal to her passion for sharing music with others, and her goal is to use music to foster relationships between people throughout the world.
In October 2009, Ms. Levin was a Finalist in the 17th International Harp Contest in Israel, where she was awarded the Irena Kaganovsky Prize and performed with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Earlier that year, she was a guest soloist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the 2008 Jeff Bradley Young Artists Competition and was a National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Level I winner. In June 2010, she was the top winner of the American Harp Society Anne Adams Awards.
As part of the Focus on Youth concert series, Ms. Levin performed at the 2008 World Harp Congress in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has performed extensively with the Colorado Chamber Players as the recipient of their Young Artist Fellowship, and was invited by them to perform the Rocky Mountain premiere of a chamber work by Gabriela Lena Frank in May 2011. She has been a guest soloist with the Colorado Young Sinfonia and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, with whom she was Principal Harpist for five years, and is a three-term roster member of the Young Musicians Foundation of Colorado. A strong proponent of developing modern harp music, Ms. Levin collaborates frequently with student composers in both solo and ensemble settings.
Emily Levin began harp studies at age five with Mary Kay Waddington. Originally from Colorado, she is a sophomore at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studies with Susann McDonald. She is a Jacobs Scholar and a member of the Singing Hoosiers, and outside of music, she enjoys history, reading and running.
