Kenneth Harper
Previous Artist, Double Bass
Ken Harper was a member of the Colorado Chamber Players from 1994 until his death from cancer on February 20th, 2009. He was a treasured friend, colleague and an incredible musician. Ken brought a love for all styles of music to the ensemble, including the tangos of Piazzolla and Gardel. His gentle wit and good humor brought joy to CCP rehearsals and concerts. It was an honor to work with him for 15 seasons. The CCP contributed to a memorial service for Ken in March 2009 with some of his favorite pieces, including his arrangement of the Brahms Bb string sextet, with double bass taking over the 2nd cello part.
Ken received the B.M. from James Madison University; and the M.M. from Rice University. Kenneth played as Assistant Principal Bass with the Colorado Symphony from 1995-2008. He formerly played with the Houston Ballet Orchestra,the New Orleans Philharmonic and the Houston Symphony.
Mr. Harper participated in many summer festivals, including the Colorado Music Festival as Principal Bass, National Repertory Orchestra, Tanglewood, and the Solti Orchestral Project at Carnegie Hall. He was a featured artist at the Round Top Festival, and was a winner in the MTNA/Wurlitzer Young Artists' Competition and Virginia MTA Concerto Competition.
