Paul Primus, Principal Second Violinist with the Colorado Symphony, will devote an entire program to literature for the solo violin and solo viola. Three masterpieces of Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed: the soulful B minor violin Partita, the staggering C major violin sonata (which includes a grand fugue), and the fiendishly virtuosic Fantasia Cromatica for viola, transcribed by Kodaly from the harpsichord version. Arthur Honeggers solo violin sonata, based on Bach but with 20th century harmonies, rounds out a tour-de-force program.
Program
J.S. Bach: Partita for solo violin, B minor, BWV 1002
Arthur Honegger: Sonata for solo violin (1948)
J.S. Bach: Fantasia Cromatica for solo viola (arr. Kodaly-Primrose)
J.S. Bach: Sonata for solo violin, C major, BWV 1005
