Daniel Silver, Clarinet Dan is a versatile performer and teacher whose career encompasses a full range of musical activities from recitals and solo appearances, to chamber music, teaching and orchestral playing. His performing has garnered critical acclaim across the country. A recent Washington Post review praised his "sense of freedom and extraordinary control." He was the Principal Clarinet of the Baltimore Opera Orchestra from 1988 until 1998 and continues to appear regularly as Principal Clarinet of the Washington Chamber Symphony at the Kennedy Center. He has appeared frequently with the orchestras of Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Mr. Silver served as Principal Clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic from 1980 to 1987. His festival credits include Tanglewood and Aspen and he now spends his summers at the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he has been a faculty member since 1991. Mr. Silver is the Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Colorado (Boulder). He has performed and toured with the Baltimore Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, including Carnegie Hall concerts with David Zinman and Lorin Maazel. Recent performances include concerts and recordings as soloist in the Clarinet Concerto of Margaret Brouwer with the Cleveland Institute of Music New Music Ensemble, a work originally premiered by Mr. Silver in 1994. Mr Silver collaborates regularly with chamber music performers across the country and has been featured on National Public Radios Performance Today with colleagues from the Minnesota Orchestra and Chicago Symphony. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Michigan. His teachers have included Thomas Peterson, Robert Marcellus and Deborah Chodacki.Return to artists page |
