Twenty five years- what an amazing milestone! The Colorado Chamber Players is delighted to celebrate our Silver Anniversary Season “Cities of Intrigue” with a combination of new projects and with pieces chosen by our faithful audience members. Each program transports the listener to a different city- some real and some imagined.

On October 9th, 28th and 31st,  the Colorado Chamber Players travel to Invisible Cities, with a return to a much beloved work in our repertoire: André Caplet’s magnificent Conte Fantastique for harp and strings, featuring Ann Marie Liss on harp. Actor Mare Trevathan will read Edgar Allen Poe’s dramatic story of Prince Prospero:  Masque of the Red Death, interspersed with Caplet’s music.

CCP musicians continue our exploration into the period instrument world, with a visit to Salzburg and Venice. Our October 21 and 24th program is devoted to a most unusual instrument: the viola d’amore. That’s D’amore! features Matthew Dane and Barbara Hamilton on viola d’amore, along with Daniel Hutchings, Tenor; Ann Marie Morgan, gamba and baroque cello; and Eric Wicks, harpsichord.  The viola d’amore has an exceptionally sweet and resonant sound, with 6 upper strings and 6 sympathetic strings.  This intriguing program includes works of JS Bach, Heinrich Biber, and Garth Knox.

December 8th and 9th will take us to London: Handel’s Messiah Part I, as the CCP returns to the glorious acoustics of  St. John’s Cathedral, with the Cathedral Choir. Both concerts are at 7:30 pm, and feature Paul Primus and Margaret Soper Gutierrez, Violins.

One of our favorite cities is in France.  Paris: Franck Quintet transports the listener to fin de siecle Paris. On January 9th, 12th and 13th, 2019- the Chamber Players and pianist Andrew Cooperstock explore the passionate Piano Quintet of César Franck, along with Chausson’s sensuous Chanson perpétuelle, with Soprano Amanda Balistrieri. Harpist Lily Primus will perform Debussy’s heavenly Danses sacrée et profane for harp and strings.

Our March 2019 program is a collaborative effort with Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, and will feature baroque composers Telemann and CPE Bach.

We will finish our season on April 4th and 7th, 2019 with City of Sorrow: Quartet for the End of Time. We welcome the return of Acting Principal Cello of the CSO Judith McIntyre, as we perform Olivier Messiaen’s masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time, along with short works by Pavel Haas and Hans Krasa.

Join us for a memorable 25th Season!
