Spinto Soprano Irene VanHam Friedlob is known for her performance mastery
bringing power, passion and purity of tone to each work. She has performed the
title roles in the operas Salome, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Tosca, I
Pagliacci, Die Fledermaus, Il Tabarro and Cavalleria Rusticana to name a few.
Equally at home in contemporary and period literature, Ms. Friedlob was invited
by Denver’s Opera Fair to perform in it’s Rocky Mountain Regional Premiers of An
American Double Bill, which starred her in a uniquely staged version of Dominick
Argento’s Pulitzer Prize song cycle, From the Diary of Virginia Woolf, and Hugo
Weisgall’s , The Stronger, a one act monodrama for soprano, based on
Strindberg’s play. Ms. Friedlob was also featured with the Lake Charles
Symphony for performances of Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915” and
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and was invited back to perform the role of Cio Cio
San from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In 1994 Ms. Friedlob founded Color
ado Opera Troupe where she created and produced fully staged operas for ten
years as General Director and Performing Artist. Ms. Friedlob is equally at
home on the concert stage and has been heard in Artist’s Series throughout the
United States and Europe. Ms. Friedlob was accepted into the 2006-2007
Associate Program of the Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute where she created,
produced and performed Carlisle Floyd’s tour de force monodrama for Soprano
called Flower and Hawk based on the life of one of histories most famous and
influential women, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Ms. Friedlob’s love of singing,
passion for opera and desire to lift people sparks her singing.
