Incessant Hum: Beethoven

December 16, 2021 by Barbara Hamilton

Colorado Chamber Players presents a world premiere of a music/theatre hybrid, with a script by Jeffrey Neuman, directed by Mare Trevathan.

Originally performed live in January 2020, this is a re-broadcast of a live performance at the Boulder Public Library, available online (video on demand) ONLY.

As the world celebrates the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, we explore the emotional world that Beethoven experienced, as he lost his hearing and ability to perform as a pianist and conductor.

Two actors, Chris Kendall and Chelsea Frye, perform Neuman’s script, along with excerpts from late works by Beethoven.  Directed by Mare Trevathan. Tickets available in advance (click on link) through On The Stage.

Tickets are $5 (student/underemployed), $10 (individual) and $25 (family).

With Chris Kendall as Beethoven and Chelsea Frye as Elise, joined by Andrew Cooperstock (piano), Paul Primus and John Fadial (violin), Barbara Hamilton (viola), and Beth Vanderborgh (cello.

MIsshapen Pearl On Demand Nov. 19-Dec. 3

November 19, 2021 by Barbara Hamilton

The CCP proudly presents music of the 17th and 18th centuries,  with music of three historically excluded women composers.   TICKET LINK HERE

Baroque, which comes from the Portuguese word for misshapen pearl, barroco, was first used as a derogatory term by 19th century critics who found Baroque art to be old fashioned.

Today, we joyfully celebrate the music of the baroque, and ask the question: where did women composers fit into the Baroque era?  Were women composers the actual Misshapen Pearls?

Please note: this program is only being performed ON DEMAND online. For tickets, click here.

Program:

Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (1665-1729): G minor trio sonata, arr. For two violas d’amore, gamba and archlute

Isabella Leonarda (1620-1704): Sonata duodecima, arr. For viola d’amore, gamba and archlute

Lucrezia Orsina Vizzana (1623) : Domine, arr. For 2 violas d’amore, gamba and archlute

Georg Phillip Telemann (1681-1767): Fantasia No. 7 in E-Flat Major for Solo Viola, TWV 40:20

Heinrich Biber (1644-1704): Partita IV from the Harmonia Artificiosa, for scordatura violin, scordatura viola, gamba and archlute

Performers:

Dan Urbanowicz, baroque violin and viola d’amore

Barbara Hamilton, baroque viola and viola d’amore
